Autumn Interlude

                        listen . . .

                        faint echoes of golden dreams

                        of children's laughter

                        sunburnt skin and lemonade

they have given way to a song

of dry leaves and cigarette ends

                        fading sunshine and bicycles

like a grey cat, twilight creeps onto the horizon

draping the star-filled sky in royal velvet

as breath mingles with hot chocolate steam

listen to the wind - is it promising snow?
